Abstract
The article focuses on Minaret of Jam in Afghanistan which is covered in intricate geometric brickwork, with verses of the Koran rendered in blue-glazed tiles. It mentions work of Minaret of Jam Archaeological Project (MJAP) which is placing a renewed focus on the Ghurids and providing an opportunity to reassess the history of a little-known people. It also mentions Ghurids and their contemporaries often erected towers to commemorate important victories.
