Abstract
This article discusses the archaeological discovery of incised stones across the western United States, considered to be prayerstones. The author comments on the religious significance of the stones to several indigenous populations, including the Paiutes, Shoshone, and Ute. The dispersion of these stones throughout the region may indicate that the Numic people, ancestors of today's indigenous groups, spread rapidly across the Great Basin area.
