Abstract
The article discusses the integral Common Core State Standard (CCSS) concept of text complexity and presents an analysis of the text complexity in young adult (YA) literature. Topics include the rationale development for the use of YA literature in English language arts (ELA) classrooms, the quantitative, qualitative, and task-reader dimensions of text complexity, and the analysis of YA novels "The Complete Persepolis," by Marjane Satrapi and "Seraphina," by Rachel Hartman.
