Abstract
The paper presents a short review of several earlier papers of the authors. They present an approach to quantum field theory model building based on the hypothesis that the mass spectrum of particles that are declared to be elementary in the model framework should be bounded from above by some fundamental mass $M$. The special model with one extra dimension is constructed in such a way as to naturally incorporate this assumption. Effects of spontaneous symmetry breaking are studied in the models of such type.
