Abstract
A partial characterization of totally real submanifolds and partial classifications of totally real submanifolds in complex space forms were studied by the first author and K. Ogiue [Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. {\bf 193} (1974), 257--266; MR0346708 (49 \#11433)]. In the present paper, the authors continue to study fundamental properties of totally real submanifolds. In particular, they obtain two reduction theorems for totally real submanifolds in complex space forms and study totally real submanifolds with parallel mean curvature vector.
