Abstract
The authors report on a study to examine the job market for information workers in Canada in the 1980s through an analysis of job advertisements. They also attempt to determine whether students' preferences for elective courses in a graduate program of library and information science match the trends revealed by the study. Related studies from other countries, namely Great Britain and the United States, are discussed. The methods used are described. Results on full-time permanent positions, contractually limited positions, geographic location, level of experience required, salaries, required computing skills, bilingualism, and students' selection of electives are reported.
