Abstract
It is shown experimentally that the drift instability can be suppressed through an increase in the effective rate of ion-ion collisions if large-amplitude waves are excited at the lower hybrid resonance, ..omega../sub h//sup 2/=..omega../sub He/..omega../sub Hi/. The experiments are carried out in a beam-plasma system in a mirror field.
