Abstract
Summary:Background: To assess the contribution of mammography in the detection of ductal carcinoma in situ and multicentric carcinoma in situ. To discuss and assess various methods of biopsy techniques. Methods: Mammographies and sonographies of breast cancer patients were reviewed. Results: We used samples of the last 20 years (n=850) to review the development of diagnostics of non palpable breast cancer focusing on in situ carcinoma. We found that the number of in situ carcinoma has increased by 18%. It should be emphasized that mammography is highly sensitive as regards detection of microcalcifications but its specific is low. Conclusions: The number of detection of in situ carcinoma will rise with the constant improvement of diagnostic imaging.
