Abstract
The future MPD experiment at the NICA collider is aimed to study hot and dense matter created in heavy-ion collisions at center-of-mass energies of 4 to 11 GeV. Measurements of photon spectra via reconstruction of electron–positron pairs from photon conversions provide a unique opportunity to probe the temperature of the produced medium and study π0- and \documentclass[12pt]{minimal}\usepackage{amsmath}\usepackage{wasysym}\usepackage{amsfonts}\usepackage{amssymb}\usepackage{amsbsy}\usepackage{mathrsfs}\usepackage{upgreek}\setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt}\begin{document}$$\eta $$\end{document}-meson yields down to low transverse momenta. In this work, feasibility of photon conversion measurements in the MPD experiment is discussed. A proposal to increase the photon conversion probability using a dedicated retractable converter is presented, and prospects for probing the material budget of the experiment using converted photons are evaluated.
