Abstract
EVIDENCE-BASED ANSWER: Allergen-specific immunotherapy can reduce asthma symptoms and use of asthma medication, particularly inhaled corticosteroids (SOR: A, Cochrane review and RCT). Adverse effects include cost, patient discomfort, and local or systemic allergic reactions from the injections.
