Abstract
(b Château de Marolles, Génillé, Indre-et-Loire, 1600; d Paris, March 6, 1681). French collector, genealogist, translator and writer. He was the son of the eminent soldier Claude de Marolles. In 1609 he was granted the abbey of Beaugerais and in 1626 that of Villeloin. In 1628 he entered the household of Charles I de Gonzague, Duc de Nevers, who appointed him tutor to his grandson. He found a friend and protectress in Louise-Marie de Gonzague, daughter of the Duc de Nevers and future queen of Poland. From about 1644 he dedicated himself to study; he translated many Latin texts and began to search for prints. He acquired all or part of the collections of Delorme (possibly Charles de l’Orme, d 1655), Claude Maugis, Jacques Kerver (d 1583) and probably Denis Pétau (1583–1652), of G. N.
