Abstract
This study surveyed export managers at small and medium-sized Korean manufacturing companies and examined the impact of humanistic knowledge on improving their intercultural communicative competence. We also examined the impact of intercultural communicative competence on rapport with importers. This study classified exporters' humanistic knowledge into five sub-concepts: literary, philosophy, history, art, religion, and cultural knowledge, and conducted research based on these. An empirical analysis was conducted 207 export managers of small and medium-sized businesses in Daegu and Gyeongbuk. According to the analysis results, it was confirmed that literary, historical, religious and cultural knowledge had a positive effect on intercultural communicative competence, while philosophical and artistic knowledge had no effect. Additionally, it was found that exporters' intercultural communicative competence has a positive effect on rapport, including pleasant relationships and personal bonds with importers. The results of this study can provide strategic implications for exporters to seek and improve rapport with importers by developing humanistic knowledge and intercultural communicative competence.
