Abstract
In this paper, a reconfigurable T-shape defected microstrip structure resonator(DMSR) using a pin diode is proposed. A DMSR, which is constructed by etching the defect structure on the microstrip transmission line itself, operates as a resonator due to change of the equivalent impedance of the microstrip caused by the etched defect structure. The resonant frequency of DMSR is determined by the size of the defect structure and can be changed by inserting lumped elements on the defect structure because the equivalent circuit parameter of DMSR is affected by the added lumped elements.The proposed reconfigurable DMSR utilizes two pin diodes with opposite polarities on the conventional DMSR with two gaps. Since the gap capacitance of the DMSR is changed by controlling the on/off state of the diodes on the gaps using the bias voltage, the resonance frequency of the DMSR can be switched.From the experimental results, the resonant frequency of the proposed reconfigurable DMSR can be changed from 3.1GHz and 3.216GHz depending on the state of the pin diode.
