Abstract
In this study, the long-term performances of four polyester-spunbonded nonwoven fabrics used as filter material for prefabricated vertical drains (PVDs) under seawater conditions were examined. It was observed that the tensile loads of the spunbonded nonwoven fabrics for PVDs decreased with the salt water spray time, where the tensileload decrease in the yarn-coated sample was less than that of the uncoated sample. It was observed that the yarn coating increased the tensile load of the spunbonded nonwoven fabric. In addition, the yarn coating affected the evenness of the web formation of the spunbonded nonwoven fabric as a PVD filter. When the Arrhenius model was applied to evaluate the long-term performance of the spunbonded nonwoven fabric as a PVD filter, the period for maintaining the strength retention of the yarn-coated sample as in the tensile load test was predicted to be much longer than that of the untreated sample.
