Abstract
In 2022, the new course of study started in high school. One of the big changes was to start the subject of inquiry-based learning, which has been increasingly required due to recent drastic social changes. Elementary and junior high schools have called it “the Period for Integrated Studies” over the last two decades, on the contrary, high schools decided to call it “the Period for Inquiry-based Cross-disciplinary Study.” In this study, we developed the inquiry-based learning attitude scale and asked Japanese 488 high school students (188 males and 300 females) to answer the scale in the online survey. The result from factor analysis showed expected two actors with five items respectively, which were named as “avoidance in inquiry” and “practice in inquiry.” Finally, we found four types using the scores of inquiry-based learning attitude scale.: that is, Type A from low in voidance but high in practice in inquiry, Type B from low in both avoidance and “practice in inquiry, Type C from high in both avoidance and practice in inquiry, and Type D from high in avoidance and low in practice in inquiry. Other results suggested that students could learn well and develop their abilities and competencies by learning in both traditional subjects and the Period for Inquiry-based Cross-disciplinary Study.
