Abstract
Aerial bacterial emissions from an activated sludge plant were determined by sampling and comparing the upwind and downwind concentrations of microorganisms, and by the introduction of a tracer organism into the liquid phase with subsequent identification of the tracer in downwind samples. Observations on the numbers and species of microorganisms present in domestic waste water and the downwind air samples indicate a potential health hazard to plant employees and local residents.
