Abstract
Selling involves direct communication with the potential customer and is one of the most effective methods of increasing sales. In hotels, many staff have to opportunity to sell and should be trained to understand the customer's needs, to listen, to be thoughtful and helpful. A formal sales visit should be planned in advance and material prepared that will show off the attractions of the product. The call should be conducted confidently and overtly. Telephone selling covers both the way enquiries are handled and the calling of potential customers.
