Abstract
There is need for innovation in precision screw design for plastics processing and production, as industry insiders acknowledge the lack of major technology breakthroughs in the last few decades. Specifically, new designs are sought to accommodate the properties of particular resins, aside from the mixing and output requirements of individual processes. However, design specialist Robert Barr notes that breakthroughs are imminent, as he predicts that the next generation of screw designs to furnish enhanced mixing of liquids and other specialty additives, while a trend towards in-barrel melting and mixing will ensue.
