Abstract
In this paper, a boost-half bridge-based single-stage E-capless converter is proposed for EV chargers. The converter has the conventional advantages of bridgeless totem pole structure, electrolytic capacitor less with HF isolation, and no zero-crossing current spike. Besides that, the proposed converter is shown to have a wider zero-voltage switching range compared to the conventional topology. A harmonic injection method is proposed to not only improve THD to less than 5% under the whole load range but also extend the ZVS range of the converter under a wide voltage range. The converter can achieve higher efficiency under the light load with the shedding capability, which helps to reduce the switching loss by a half. Experimental results from a 1.5kW prototype are implemented to validate the proposed concepts.
