Abstract
The article discusses the history of female pirates. The careers of four pirate women are described. Ann Bonny and Mary Read were known for dressing as men. Grania ny Maille was a female Irish pirate chief and contemporary of Queen Elizabeth I of England. Cheng I Sao was a female Chinese pirate chief from the early 19th century.
