Abstract
An interview with BirdLife South Africa's Oppenheimer Fellow of Conservation Hanneline Smit is presented. She received her training as a molecular zoologist at Stellenbosch University and plans to make use of her knowledge and expertise to help in the conservation of South African birds. She talks about her enthusiasm for working with scientists and conservationists who contribute to bird monitoring and conservation. She describes hornbills and raptors as her favorite groups of birds. Her goals for the organization's Conservation Division are outlined.
