Abstract
The article focuses on the need for conserving the biodiversity of Gauteng, South Africa. It is observed that a large percentage of South Africa's biodiversity is represented by Gauteng. It is noted that topographically diversity and overwhelming number of species make the province important in terms of its biodiversity. The province is working for the establishment of conservation of the many invertebrates. It is stated that the conservation of some endemic species, which are sensitive to anthropogenic threats, is the sole responsibility of the people residing in those areas. Emphasis is given on the importance of conserving the grassland of South Africa. Urbanization and climate change have been observed as threats to plant and animal species of the area.
