The authors have developed an interactive CD-ROM mapping program which will be used to test the effectiveness of multimedia as a user interface to Geographical Information Systems (GIS). This paper outlines the methods used to produce an interactive mapping package on CD-ROM. It will outline the design philosophy used to guide the mapping package assembly, describe the authoring packages usedfor production of the package elements and give details about how such products can be used to enrich the media usedfor spatial data depiction.
