Abstract
The article discusses the moral representation of objects found in gardens in moral tales for children. The author presents arguments to support her claim that the arbor plays a key role in the apprenticeship of children into adult responsibility where experimentation and role playing takes place. Both the garden wall and the gate demarcate boundaries to the extent of the domestic domain, particularly for girls.
