Abstract
The article discusses a case involving a pregnant physician exposed to a patient with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) and possible tuberculosis (TB). A brief summary of the case scenario is provided. Exposure to TB during pregnancy presents a dilemma because of the need for antimycobacterial drugs and the vulnerability of newborns to this pathogen. Pregnant physicians who are exposed to the human immunodeficiency virus can be treated with postexposure prophylactic drugs.
