Abstract
The article presents a study which determines whether a calcium and vitamin D intervention could reduce the incidence of stress fractures in female recruits during basic training. Researchers have evaluated female Navy recruit volunteers who were randomly given calcium, vitamin D and placebo and were reported to clinic with symptoms of stress fractures. Results of the analyses show that taking calcium and vitamin D as supplements can prevent fracturing in women.
