Abstract
The article presents a discussion of nonprofit organizations' goals and provides a method for evaluating quantitatively whether these goals have been achieved. Twenty nonprofits in the United States are discussed with the Nature Conservancy being the primary example. Throughout its history, the Conservancy has tracked the number of acres of land preserved and the total amount of donations received. This approach is simple and prevents misrepresentation, however it did not stop the extinction of species, which is the Conservancy's stated goal. Performance metrics are presented for evaluating effectiveness in reaching a stated goal. INSET: Link your metrics to your mission.
