Abstract
This article explores the release of Joachim Raff's Fifth Symphony, "Lenore," in 2022, which commemorates the composer's 200th birth anniversary. Raff, a Swiss composer from the late 19th century, gained recognition for his diverse range of compositions that appealed to a wide audience. The symphony, composed in 1872, showcases Raff's attempt to combine programmatic elements with traditional classical structures. It is based on a Gothic ballad by Gottfried August Bürger and is divided into three parts that correspond to different sections of the ballad. The article also emphasizes the importance of giving more scholarly attention to composers whose works have been overlooked or underrepresented in the Western canon. [Extracted from the article]
