Abstract
The article presents a study that deals with the status of mammals in Europe. Based on International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List Criteria and regional Red Listing guidelines, assessment of status, trends, and conservation of mammals in Europe were conducted. From the results the author revealed that 15 percent and nine percent of Europe's 231 mammal species are threatened and near threatened, respectively. They highlight the role of habitat loss and degradation as the greatest single threat to terrestrial mammals in Europe.
