Abstract
Presents an outlook for academic medicine in the U.S. in 2025, based from the scenarios created by the International Campaign to Revitalise Academic Medicine. Definition of academic medicine; Aim of ICRAM in undertaking some scenario planning, a technique of thinking about both the future and the present; Factors that will lead to the increase in the number of medical schools becoming private; Response of some medical communities and medical leadership to the increase in concern about the gap between academic medicine and practice.
