Abstract
Phytophthora capsici is a fungal pathogen as the causal agent of foot rot diseases on black pepper which is the most devastating. Chemical fungicide is commonly used to control that disease, but it is not eco-friendly. Nano eucalyptus formulation is an eco-friendly fungicide, due to the active ingredient being eucalyptus oil. The research was conducted at the Laboratory of Plant Diseases, Indonesian Spices and Medicinal Crops Research Institute (ISMCRI), from March to August 2022. A completely randomized design was used, with 5 treatments and 6 replications. The aim of the research is to observe the effect of improving nano eucalyptus (NE) formulation and storage time against the growth of P. capsici in vitro and in vivo. The results of an in vitro test showed that the improvement of the NE formulation (by reducing the particle size of the active ingredient to 14.12 nm) could increase the effectiveness of P. capsici growth inhibition by 8.09 – 16.32% at a concentration of 1-3. Storage of the NE formulation for 11 months did not decrease the effectiveness of the inhibition against the growth of P. capsici. Based on the preliminary in vivo test on Phytophthora leaf spot on black pepper, preventive treatment was better than curative, due to the leaf spot area of NE formulation treatment being smaller than without treatment.
