Abstract
The article discusses research which examines the structure of dumortierite, a mineral found within the quartzite country rock of Susunia Hill in Bankura District, West Bengal, India. Microscopic studies reveal that the mineral is euhedral to subhedral and is strongly pleochroic from colourless to azure blue. Microprobe analysis indicates the potential of the formation of dumortierite to have involved leaching of Al from the silicate wall rocks under high water/rock reaction conditions.
