The article focuses on the effort of the Alliance for Nonprofit Management (the Alliance) in helping non-profit leaders to manage diversity in workplaces in the U.S. It outlines the importance of understanding the individual differences, and the optimization of innovation and problem solving while using diverse teams. It explores the different structural inequities which hinder people of different racial and ethnic backgrounds, gender and sexual identities from occupying leadership positions. It highlights the success of the Cultural Competency Initiative (CCI) in calling the attention of the leaders in recognizing the role of cultural competency in capacity building.
