Abstract
Conesnails are renowned for producing peptide-based venom, containingconopeptides and conotoxins, to capture their prey. A novel small-moleculeguanine derivative with unprecedented features, genuanine, was isolatedfrom the venom of two cone snail species. Genuanine causes paralysisin mice, indicating that small molecules and not just polypeptidesmay contribute to the activity of cone snail venom. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
