Abstract
This letter published in the Journal of General Internal Medicine discusses a study that examined the association between primary care physicians' electronic inbox activity and their patients' likelihood to recommend them. The study found that female PCPs receive more messages than male PCPs and that there are differences in patients' expectations and interactions with female physicians. The results showed that greater electronic inbox activity was associated with increased odds of a higher likelihood to recommend score, particularly for female PCPs. However, longer turnaround time was associated with decreased odds of a high likelihood to recommend score. These findings suggest the importance of managing inbox work and compensating PCPs for non-visit work. [Extracted from the article]
