Abstract
The article reports on the discovery of finless porpoise (Neophocaena phocaenoides) at the vicinity of Okinawa Island, part of Nansei Islands in southwestern Japan. It examines the source population of finless porpoises using mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) control-region sequence analysis. It says that mtDNA control-region sequence analysis offers information on gene flow between local isolated populations of finless porpoises which possess regional genetic features.
