Abstract
The article focuses on the findings of surveys concerning the population characteristics of European lobster or Homarus gammarus in Tysfjord and Nordfolda, northern Norway during the periods 1964-1965 and 1992-2005. The study revealed that lobsters in the Nordfolda system were larger than those in Tysfjord. It was also found that lobsters in Stefjord was characterised by a small mean carapace length. It also suggested that lobster populations in the area with 24-hour daylight during summer were morphologically different from lobster off southwestern Norway in crusher claw length for males and abdominal width for females.
