Abstract
Stable lasers with narrow linewidth represent indispensable resources in various quantum information processing tasks. Here, a free-running infrared diode laser turning into a well-controllable stable narrow linewidth laser at 1762 nm, using optical injection-locking technique, has been demonstrated. The linewidth reduction is achieved by locking the laser diode to an external high-finesse reference cavity. This laser is an important tool for trapped barium ions as it has been used for encoding optical qubit, preparation and manipulation of the quantum state as well as used for resolved sideband cooling of barium ions. We also demonstrate the Ramsey experiment on a trapped barium ion, as it provides information about how long quantum information can be stored in our ion-trap system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
