Abstract
The article recalls issues and events related to music that happened in Christchurch, New Zealand in 2004. A new work for violin and piano titled "Three Pieces for Polly" was produced by John Ritchie. Chris Cree Brown was commissioned by the Christchurch City Council to compose "The Solitude of the Ice," for recorder, flute and cello to celebrate the opening of the 2004 Antarctic Season. Philip Norman devoted most of the year to writing a biography of composer Douglas Lilburn to be published by Canterbury University Press in November 2005.
